'Michael @ Midland Grand' follows an extraordinary artist on a 'normal' day's work, inside London's most glamorous derelict building, where he's spent 15 years obsessing, sketching and generally being a charming nuisance. He reveals his larger plans, which will eventually include 'the derelict sensation'. Watch this space!

The film explores the experiences they had in the 'Bacon Factory', a derelict building taken over as the 'convergence centre' for the 2001 Mayday events.

Teresa Chacko recounts having
to walk past forbidding Jute mills
during a difficult period of
her teenage life. Though derelict,
these buildings became part of
her life and part of stories told
by her father.
The mills were
closed when the Jute industry
moved to India, a connection
she makes when visiting family
in Kerala. In India, Teresa
finds that every space is used
and valued.
This compares to the
more recent fashion for re-using
industrial buildings in the UK - where
the original 'solid workforce' has given
way to the 'superficial nonsense' of the
80s and 90s. The film combines documentary
interview with a symbolic, poetic film.

In 'The Cement Factory' Alberto explores a stunning derelict building in London's dockland, as he presents his engaging and forceful exploration of the formative role derelict buildings have played in his sexuality and life. In small town Catholic Italy the only place for gay men to meet was a cement factory which provided a haunting atmosphere and a space free from the suffocation he experienced around him as his straight friends hold parties for their 'plump girlfriends with their fruity deodorants'. He says that he is not speaking as some kind of spokesperson, but simply in celebration of his sexuality, which he likens to a 'black horse that [he] rides into a dark tunnel in search of incredible adventure'. This interview-based documentary uses the full possibilities of digital video to create an evocative and beautiful film, which combines Alberto's presence, the backdrop of the derelict building a nd Anna Palm's spare and haunting music.
