PHOTOGRAPHY BY
ANTONY
CAIRNS
I
made these images
as a way of exploring
the space of the
public phone box.
I had noticed that
a call box has less
of a demand now and
the space of one
seems to have become
a place of sleaze
and vandalism. They
are rendered useless
for their original
purpose and have
become dilapidated,
decaying boxes on
every corner of the
street. I felt that
the space these call
boxes had become
sinister and I wanted
to show this within
the photographs.

These digitally manipulated images of the near-ubiquitous concrete construction sites that can be found throughout Greece comment on the backward-looking historicism and rusticism that travellers and travel guides always seem to bring to the country.
